The Easterlies
The Easterlies
PC: Susan Altemose
The Easterlies were the graduate woodwind quintet in residence at the University of Delaware School of Music from 2023-2025. Their name is inspired by easterly winds in weather and climate—winds that originate in the east and blow elsewhere. The group drew this unique parallel from their unification and inevitable growth in a commonly ‘east’ location to us. Naturally, relating their wind quintet name to a literal category of wind felt fitting.
The group was accepted as one of 7 chamber music groups across the country to compete at the 2024 Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Wind Competition in Atlanta, GA, and was additionally selected to perform in the 2024 Mid Atlantic Flute Convention in Herndon, VA. They maintain an active outreach presence with local high schools in the Delaware area: performing, coaching, and engaging with young musicians.
In addition to their rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule, MJ manages and oversees the group's social media platforms. She has facilitated hundreds of followers across numerous networks in the limited months that they have been together. In addition to her curated content planning and posting, MJ has also led successful merchandise campaigns including branded crewnecks, t-shirts, and stickers for the Easterlies.
